Knoydart Tree Nursery CIC

Knoydart Tree Nursery was set up by Jacqui Wallace in 2020 as a pilot project to establish the feasibility of a commercial tree nursery on Knoydart.  This was successful with 8,500 trees grown in winter 2021 from locally collected seed.

The tree nursery was then incorporated as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in November 2022.

We have three directors – Jacqui, Lorna and Kristy.  Jacqui is also the Nursery Manager and alongside Nursery Assistant Trisha who manage day-to-day operations.

What We Do

Holly 1.jpg

We collect local native tree seed, extract the seed where necessary and store the different species over the winter or sometimes two winters like Hawthorn and Holly.  We have mainly Oak, Hazel, Hawthorn, Holly, Birch, Alder, Rowan, Dog Rose, Burnet Rose, Blackthorn and Aspen.

The nursery works closely with Knoydart Forest Trust who manage woodlands across the Knoydart peninsula. KFT have planted in excess of 600,000 trees on Knoydart since 1999, and in recent years over 50,000 of those trees have come from our nursery.

Orders for all types of project are welcome - please get in touch if you would like to discuss how we could help with an upcoming project.  We have cell grown trees which can be planted at any time of the year; and bareroot which are planted when they are dormant over the winter.

Individual trees can also be purchased and posted through our ‘tree in a bag’ scheme where your tree is packed in a hessian bag and postal tube and comes with a tree information leaflet.  A perfect gift.

We also have a small selection of potted trees, herbs and shrubs.

Where We Are

If you are coming to Inverie by boat then you’ll see the tunnels to the left of the pier/village.  At the top of the pier turn to the left and follow the public road, a very short walk will take you to the nursery.
